Preventing Insanity Team

Preventing Insanity Racing Team first began racing marathon river jet boats in 2015. With adaptive equipment, Leighton took on somewhat of a level playing field with the other able-bodied competitors. In 2016, the team won the World Jet Boat Championship in the FX class. This race spanned three rivers, seven days and 600 miles.

In 2022, they decided to have a go with sprint boat racing, which takes place in small shallow channels of water. Preventing Insanity has been racing Sprint Boats in the USA since 2022. They competed in the New Zealand World Championships in 2025 earning 9th place in the Super Boat class.

Leighton Lillie

DRIVER

Leighton was a former professional motorcycle racer who was paralyzed from the chest down in a 2009 motorcycle crash. Injuries to his spinal cord left him in a wheel chair, unable to walk, let alone race. His career ending injury didn’t stop him from still successfully competing in different realms of motorized sports to this day (boat racing/X-Games Snowbikes/dirtbikes). Leighton is a rider/sports personality and inspiration to many. He lives in Lewiston, Idaho with his wife, Shayla, who also enjoys racing motorized sports. They have two daughters.

Cody Holzer

NAVIGATOR

Cody has been navigating for Leighton since 2016. Cody has a long background of racing, from Dirtbikes starting at age 5 and still racing currently, as well as Leighton introducing him to snowbike racing in 2022. Sprint boat racing has been a lifelong dream of his since his parents won a world championship in the sport in 1999 in “Group A (400)”. Cody lives in Lewiston, Idaho with his wife, Hailey, and son who love to come and support the races.
