Preventing Insanity Team
Preventing Insanity Racing Team first began racing marathon river jet boats in 2015. With adaptive equipment, Leighton took on somewhat of a level playing field with the other able-bodied competitors. In 2016, the team won the World Jet Boat Championship in the FX class. This race spanned three rivers, seven days and 600 miles.
In 2022, they decided to have a go with sprint boat racing, which takes place in small shallow channels of water. Preventing Insanity has been racing Sprint Boats in the USA since 2022. They competed in the New Zealand World Championships in 2025 earning 9th place in the Super Boat class.
